Dynamic Driver Model

Development of Methodologies to Evaluate the Nighttime Safety Implications of the Roadway Visual Scene Under Varying Cognitive Task Loads

Dynamic Driver Model

This research integrates new technology in addition to identifying a dynamic driver visual model.

To accomplish this goal of the model development, three fundamental functionalities must be considered:

  • developing a driver monitoring system where both the luminance nature of the visual environment and the driver behavior is captured.
This monitoring system will require the development of a new system which combines two existing systems, an infrared eye tracker and a dynamic photometer, into a unified system which also links to in-vehicle instrumentation.
  • the development of a model framework.
In order for the model to be both comprehensive and usable but still related to the human visual system, careful consideration must be given to how the statistics and rules are developed.
  • The final aspect is the consideration of the data collection methods and the statistical analyses.
Data collection must be integrated with the model framework as well as with the driver monitoring system.
