EU Climate Vulnerability Map

Network vulnerability to climate

EU Climate Vulnerability Map

Network vulnerability to climate EU climate research coupled to (road) network vulnerabilities and strategies This project is aimed at implementing the results of EU research projects that make a link between climate research and modeling on the one hand, and road vulnerability and management strategies on the other hand. Valuable EU research in this respect was performed in the ERANET ROAD projects SWAMP, RIMAROCC and IRWIN. The instruments developed in these projects will be tested for applicability for the Dutch highway network: • The SWAMP project (also mentioned above) targets the critical issue of finding the most vulnerable parts of the road network, and how to prepare them for flooding. • RIMAROCC developed a Guidebook that is intended to be a concise methodological guide to risk management for roads with regard to climate change. Their proposed method should enable the user to identify the climatic risks and to implement optimal action plans that maximise the economic return to the road owner taking into account construction cost, maintenance and environment. • In IRWIN improved winter road index was developed capable of assessing the implications of climate change in various weather parameters and also related road maintenance actions. Furthermore, the appplicability of the results of other research projects by universities and institutes is assessed
